This past week was another good one! I'm very pleased with how smoothly everything has been going. My week at school was really good, I went on several museum trips (one ended with me fainting in the Louvre, but every day can't be perfect. Also, I'm fine)
This past week was Paris Fashion week, which basically means that the city is busier than normal and all the fun places are blocked off for runway tents and VIP only areas. On Thursday, one of my friends from school invited me to a little event in the Marais for her boyfriend's shop. It was really fun, complete with adorable puppies, French wine, of course, a lot of good conversation with lovely new people. I had a great time!
On Friday, a friend and I had intended to meet at the Decorative Arts museum, which is on the back side of the Louvre, but we couldn't get in because of the obnoxiously long 3 HOUR QUEUE. The museum is also exhibiting a collection of Dior cloths, so EVERYONE and their grandma was in line. After doing a little research at Starbucks across the street, we settled on visiting Musée L'Orangerie, which is one of my all time favorites. It's a smaller museum on the edge of Jardin des Tuleries. Definitely a must see if you love Monet like me. Basic break down of the museum: it houses eight of Monet's floor to ceiling Water Lilies paintings. They're set up in two circular rooms. He donated these paintings to France and they had the museum built to display them. It also has a permanent collection down stairs that includes some very nice Picassos, a few Renoirs, and some other paintings from the same time period. I am a major Monet fan girl, and even though I've been before, I was still in awe of how beautiful the Water Lilies exhibit was. After we visited the museum, we went to the area by Notre Dame and found a cafe with some super good French food. Boeuf bourguignon is the ultimate comfort food, and by following it up with Amorino's rose shaped gelato, you have the most perfect meal.
On Sunday, I was supposed to meet up with another friend to go to the YSL Museum, but again, because of Fashion Week, the line was stupid long. I decided instead to go for a little walk down the Champs Élysées! Since it was a Sunday, the whole street is closed to cars, so you can walk around freely. I also happened upon the Loreal fashion show, which was pretty cool. The girl at Longchamp told me it was gong on all afternoon and would show clothing from a lot of high street fast fashion shops. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon.
Lastly, on Monday we didn't have classes so my friend Yuling and I decided to make it another museum day! We ended up going to Musée de Cluny, which is the Middle Ages museum. I'm kinda slightly obsessed with the Middle Ages after going to archaeology field school in Ireland last year. I loved this museum and was sad I hadn't gone sooner. They have a collection of really interesting religious iconography, marble statues that were taken from cathedrals to protect them from vandals, as wells a several rooms full of stained glass panels. The best part, and what the museum is known for, is a collection of six tapestries, which are called The Lady and the Unicorn! These things are HUGE and the colors are so vibrant.
I have decided to add another little segment to my posts. In this portion, I want to mention something that I find really interesting, or even weird, that I've observed being an American in another country. I've noticed a lot of little things, but the thing I want to talk about today is the eggs. Today, I went to the grocery store to get eggs so I could make a Carbonara sauce, and I searched the store for 15 minutes checking in every single refrigerated display case and couldn't find the eggs in any of them. I FINALLY asked the kid who worked there, and he walked me over to the small section of sliced breads and there they were SITTING OUT ON THE SHELF AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. Is this weird to anyone else? Obviously they're safe to eat because the all the French haven't died from bad eggs, but I just thought it was so strange.
As I did in my last post, I'm going to insert a few of my favorite pictures that I took this week. This first one is me in the Jardin des Tuleries before we went into the museum to look at the Monets. Paris is starting to turn orange, and for the first time in my life, I'm getting to experience Fall.

The next picture is me at the Monet exhibit in order to give you a bit of a reference for how big the paintings are! I'm definitely not a model lol, but you at least can see how tall the artwork is!

This is my gelato, complete with a macron, and my beef stew (still thinking about how delicious this was)

Last but not least, here is a picture of one of the unicorn tapestries! I didn't get a good shot of how large they are because of how the room was set up but this is a zoomed in picture of one of the scenes that I really liked.

That's my post! I hope you have a lovely week and thank you so much for reading about my week! I enjoy writing these posts and I really hope you're enjoying reading them.
